Women In CSS - I'm One Of Them!

Having recently just found some time to do some reading around the web, I came across some articles relating to the seeming lack of women in CSS Design, Where are the women of CSS? and Veerle's Insight, which had been brought about by Eric Meyers request for a CSS Luminary

This request threw up the usual round of "Well Known" names in CSS circles, which of course are mostly men.

I don't have an issue with the male domination factor at all, nor can I say I've ever felt any discrimination, because I'm a woman, at all. I've never considered being female a "problem". In truth I didn't even ponder the question until reading Molly's article and it's replies. Then it made me think about how that applied in an actual working woman's case ~ mine!

The one thing that all those well known names have in common is that talk a lot , usually via their blogs.

CSS itself has only been around since 1996, (I've been using it since 1997!) . I think that CSS and Blogs have evolved together, and it was probably a natural process to use them together. I do remember thinking back about 3-4 years that I should have one, but at that time it was a conscious decision not to, Why?:

Q. Why don't I talk more?
A. I don't have time!
Q. Why don't I have time?
A. I really am too busy with a young family, more clients than I can handle and trying to have a little life in between
Q. Could I make some time to share some thoughts?
A. Well, yes but it would need to be on a forum or a mailing list, and only one at that.
Q. Did you choose one?
A. Yes, the CSS Forum at WebmasterWorld.com (SuzyUK)
Q. Why a Forum and not a Blog?
A. While 'juggling' a young family and work. A Community offered a way to contribute and learn at times (usually odd times!) that suited me without feeling the need to research longer articles on a daily basis
Q. Was that the right choice?
A. Definitely, I've had the luxury of learning, contributing and then making (and subsequently meeting) loads of new friends without feeling like I had to make excuses when I disappeared for a while to get some "real work" done.
Q. Do You think we'll hear more from you in the near future?
A. Yes I distinctly hope so, I now have years of notes, thoughts and experience to relate to and the family are growing leaving me more time to write some of this down
Q. Do You Think there are more women like you out there?
A. Oh yes, and even if they never come to your attention they will be working away just like always

My little interview with myself may not be very interesting, but I thought I would add it as it sums up some of the reasons why I think us women are a quiet force behind CSS. It's also a little personal insight into one of them normally silent women.
